Slow Moving Clouds live at the Stables

The Oldtown Music Company Presents

SLOW MOVING CLOUDS live at The Stables Music Venue (Smiddy’s) , Mullingar. FRIDAY 22 MARCH

“This is one we’re really looking forward to. Something slightly different for us. These guys are making some beautiful music, dark and cinematic, moody and hypnotic. We think this is going to be a really special evening”

SLOW MOVING CLOUDS are a band based in Dublin, Ireland. They bring together roots in the Irish and Nordic folk traditions with post-punk drones, baroque strings, and soaring falsetto vocals – creating an immersive, atmospheric sound unlike anything you’ve heard before.

Their second album Starfall (2018), saw their folk roots merge with indie and experimental influences, expanding the sonic palette and power of their earlier work. The album is available digitally on the PEOPLE music platform, led by Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) and the Dessner brothers (The National).

Recent highlights for Slow Moving Clouds include participation in the 2018 PEOPLE residency/festival at Funkhaus, Berlin; performing at Sounds From a Safe Harbour, Cork (with The National); the 3Arena, Dublin (with Ludovico Einaudi); Sydney Opera House (with Teac Damsa’s Swan Loch / Loch na hEala); and at legendary Irish fiddle player Martin Hayes’ ‘Masters of Tradition’ festival.

In 2016 Slow Moving Clouds created the score for Teac Damsa’s Swan Lake / Loch na hEala, a contemporary adaptation of the classical ballet, set in the Irish midlands. The work premiered to critical and popular acclaim at the 2016 Dublin Theatre Festival, and was awarded Best Production at the 2017 Irish Theatre Awards. It is currently touring internationally with Slow Moving Clouds performing the score live.

This work built on their critically acclaimed 2015 debut album, Os, which drew comparisons to Icelandic post-rock legends Sigur Ros and Irish traditional supergroup The Gloaming. Os was hailed as ‘rich, intriguing and accomplished’ Jim Carroll (The Irish Times); and ‘emotive, euphoric and unique music’ Steve Hunt (fRoots).

Slow Moving Clouds are:

AKI (nyckelharpa, vocals)
ULTAN O’BRIEN (fiddle)
KEVIN MURPHY (cello, vocals)
